Honoring William L. Barrett, MD and supporting healthier communities across Greater Cincinnati

For 170 years, the Academy of Medicine has brought physicians together around a shared commitment to the health of our community—a legacy carried forward by those who see a need and step forward to make a difference.

Few exemplify that spirit more than William L. Barrett, MD, recipient of the 2026 Daniel Drake Humanitarian Award.

Throughout his career, Dr. Barrett has demonstrated how physician leadership can extend beyond patient care—through mentorship, education, research, patient advocacy, and the creation of new resources to meet community needs.

That same spirit is at the heart of the Academy Foundation.

From improving emergency care across our region to expanding opportunities for future physicians, the Foundation helps turn physician leadership into action that reaches beyond any one practice, institution, or patient.

On September 24, we will gather to honor Dr. Barrett, share stories of this work, and celebrate what becomes possible when people see a need and choose to step forward.
